There is an undeniable truth in this world that, at some point in each of our lives, we will need medical attention. It doesn’t matter how often you work out or how little. It doesn’t matter if you gorge yourself on food or eat like bird. It simply does not matter. You can never tell what the future may hold for you, even Psychics never know when they will become ill.
Another undeniable truth is that medical bills are astronomical in cost. Health insurance is also not cheap and it can’t be because doctor bills are so high. So it low cost health insurance possible? Low cost health insurance, to most is right up there with military intelligence or jumbo shrimp as an oxymoron.
Low cost health insurance isn’t completely unheard of. There are plenty of companies on the Internet which will offer it for you. Be very wary of it though. Sometimes the so-called low cost health insurance really isn’t. I guess to know the facts is to know what you’re getting yourself into.
Health Insurance – Traditional
Traditional health insurance is not cheap by any means. It can range to a few hundred per month depending on your needs. In general you will get it from your work. You can also get it if you own a business with a couple employees. Whenever you get sick or need a surgery they’ll cover the cost after you pay your deductible which is dependent on the plan you select.
Some of the companies you are familiar with would be Blue Cross Blue Shield and High Guard. Other forms of insurance along these lines are available to low income persons and include Gateway, Medicare and Medicaid. Low income insurance it NOT low cost health insurance, just government regulated and funded and, generically speaking, don’t cover a heck of a lot.
Essentially, the more you pay the more you get out of it. It sounds lame, but it’s the best bet for anyone with a family and having a job that affords you that benefit is a goldmine.
Health Insurance – Programs
This is where the confusion can come into play. Health insurance programs, though low in cost, are not actually insurance plans. It’s best described a shopper program. What these program companies do is contact health providers, pharmacies and drug companies and get them to offer you a discount on services and products. You have to pay into the program of course and you will see these discounts when you pay but other than these small pennies off your bill do they have any real purpose?
The short answer to the above question is no. You can get cheaper prescriptions which help. Your dental costs are reduced usually but medical doctors don’t deduct much off your bill, not like real insurance anyway. Make sure you know what it is you are really getting before spending money on it.
